What is the ECO4 Scheme?

The ECO4 scheme is a UK Government initiative designed to help households across England and Wales improve their energy efficiency.

Through the ECO4 grant, energy companies fund upgrades such as insulation, efficient heating systems, and renewable technologies. We’re approved ECO providers, which means we can deliver these improvements for free if you meet the ECO4 scheme eligibility criteria.

What Can You Get?

It all depends on your home and circumstances, but you might qualify for:
  • Loft, cavity wall, and solid wall insulation
  • Boiler replacements or upgrades
  • Renewable heating solutions
  • Other measures to reduce heat loss

ECO4 Scheme Eligibility

Eligibility depends on factors like household income, property type, and your current energy efficiency rating.

The rules for ECO grants in the UK can be confusing – but that’s where we come in.

You’re usually eligible if your home has a low energy performance rating and you’re on any of the following benefits:

  • Child Benefit
  • Child Tax Credit (CTC)
  • Employment and Support Allowance (ESA): Income-Related
  • Housing Benefit
  • Income Support (IS)
  • Income-Based Job Seeker’s Allowance (JSA)
  • Pension Credit: Guarantee Credit and Savings Credit
  • Universal Credit
  • Working Tax Credit (WTC)

LA Flex Eligibility For Those Not On Benefits

Being on benefits isn’t the only criteria, thanks to the Local Authority Flex (LA Flex) scheme.
LA Flex is a part of ECO4 that allows your local council to support your application in additional circumstances, such as if you’re a low-income household or you suffer from certain medical conditions. There are two routes we typically apply for, depending on your circumstances:

  • ECO4 LA Flex Route 1
    Households with a combined gross annual income of less than £31,000, regardless of property type or location. The £31,000 cap includes income from all sources and every adult over 18 that lives in the property.

  • ECO4 LA Flex Route 3
    This allows you to qualify on medical grounds, rather than an income threshold. An eligible healthcare professional can refer you if your health is being impacted by problems caused by a cold home, typically due to long-term health conditions like cardiovascular or respiratory diseases.
